Subscribe to the newsday mailing list so that you will receive a copy of all hello greetings and articles sent to the group.

You can subscribe by sending an email to: gsn-newsday-list-subscribe@topica.com You will receive a confirmation email back. You must REPLY to that email in order to be added to the list. (You must be subscribed to the list in order for your messages to the group to reach everybody.)

Hello Messages:
Introduce yourselves by sending your "Hello Message" to the group at newsday2009@gsn.org

Your hello message should tell the kinds of things that will give other students a good idea of who you are and about the place you live. It may contain things like:

•  several brief descriptions of your class, school, neighborhood, and community.
• Surveys and lists of favorite books, foods, styles of music, hobbies, and so on.
• 3-4-sentence descriptions of each participating student (first names only, please).
• Other ideas?

Plan, Research and Report:

• Use the teaching materials to introduce your students to the concepts and practices involved in the production of a newspaper.
• Review the Newsday Project Guidelines, which provide detailed instructions about conducting a Newsday project in your classroom.
• Research and write articles
• plan your newspaper layout, and collect graphics.

(Note: you must be a registered participant to view these materials.)

NewsWeek - Post articles:
Send ten student-written news articles via email to the Newsday mailing list for other classes to review.
Each article should be prepared and submitted as its own email message.

Final List of Participants:
Project Coordinator will send you a list of all registered participants.

If you registered late, check for any missed "Hello" messages in the project archives at http://lists.topica.com/lists/gsn-newsday-list/read

Layout & Publish:
Look at your email or log into the newsday forum archive to download articles to use in your newspaper.

Select and edit articles from the news wire, and combine them with local articles.

Mail & Post:
Mail a copy of your printed newspaper to each of the other participating schools (project coordinator will email you the addresses).

We would also like to begin developing a permanent archive of newspapers and news articles on this Web site. If you use a publishing program, please send your source file to newshelp2009@gsn.org

We'll convert it into an Adobe Acrobat PDF file and post it here as part of Newsday.
