Project Details
Project Level: Basic Project
Curriculum Fit: Community Interest; Language; Mathematics; Science; Social Studies; Technology
Technologies Used: Email; List server; Graphics: photo; draw; paint
Collaboration Styles Used: Intercultural Exchange; Travel Buddy
Full Project Description:
Tunia will leave Providence, Rhode Island and stay with each participating classroom for about two weeks. Hosting classrooms must send E-mail updates to http://members.cox.net/tunias_travels/Tunia.htm as soon as Tunia arrives in their classrooms, when she leaves, and at least 4 other times during her stay. Hosting classrooms must also agree to e-mail between two and four photos showing some of Tunia's activities during her stay or showing Tunia in her surroundings. E-mail updates must include information about what is happening in the classroom, as well as information about local plants and information about your urban, suburban, or rural neighborhood. E-mail updates must be ready for publication to the website without further editing. Please do not include children in photos since I will not post children's photos on the Internet. Tunia is a small buddy and she weighs very little. She will travel in a small box, which will be enclosed inside a large sturdy mailing envelope. This should help to keep the cost of postage to a minimum. Participants must agree to take responsibility for the price of postage when sending Tunia to her next destination. She must be sent by first class, priority mail. Participants should not enclose any souvenirs with Tunia since that will increase the price of postage for subsequent classrooms. Participants must also agree to adhere to Tunia's schedule so that she will arrive on time to her next classroom.

Objectives:
To integrate technology into other areas of the curriculum, encourage reading and writing through Tunia's website, and share information about plants and neighborhoods from various areas of the world.
