1. Description of Our Community
Our school is located near Linkou Industrial Park. To boost the local economy of Linkou, coaching the illegal and underground factories in Sanchong, Xinzhaung, Luzhou, and Banqiao to move away from residential areas, the government planned five industrial parks in certain areas at Linkou. This assisted the factories which were incapable of acquiring industrial lands, helping them to get lands build factories. Besides providing employment opportunities, the government also aimed at solving population growth in Taipei metropolis. To achieve this, they would like to boost industries, hoping that it can drive the development of other business. To study traditional production industry development, our school established the cyber-fair club. The original intention of establishing the club is to learn more about the stories of our community and hometown, and to provide the information for everyone through the internet.
2. Summary of Our Project
In the previous Taiwan School Network Expo, the theme was always something in life, or someone important to the world. In the end, we chose 'Taiwan Mask Factory'. In the beginning of 2020, coronavirus spread across the globe. Taiwan has become one of the victims. Confronting the virus, some industries faced the crisis of going bankrupt. All industries around the country were under threat. To cope with the pandemic, Taiwanese government requisitioned the masks produced by the mask factory. Welson Li industrial corporation limited established in 1997. The founder chairman Chen Yi-Li holds the operating philosophy of sustainable development, providing outstanding products for the customers. She also keeps developing and promoting products related to nonwoven fabric, trying to achieve diverse application in order to fulfill different types of customers’ different demand. What they do is a conscient enterprise. To cope with the demand of nationals at this moment, the company would not care about the price of face masks. Their only hope is to produce products of certain quality, making the customers satisfied and gain trust from more customers. When the spread of the pandemic alleviates or ends, they will recheck the face masks production lines, requiring the quality of masks more strictly, and improve the material and style of face masks that the nationals are not satisfied. They would like to make the face masks both comfortable and eco-friendly in the future.

Currently, our school provides us with an adequate e-learning environment. Not only do we have two well-equipped computer labs available for our use, but each teacher is also provided with a desktop computer for his or her personal use. In addition, there is Wi-Fi throughout the entire school.The students who participated in this year have 5th and 6th grades. They all take information courses and use chromebooks in this project. Exchange data with each other through Google Drive.
4. Problems We Had To Overcome
We looked up some second-hand information on the subject, sorted out the data, and asked questions based on the lack of data. Then, we started to assign work. This is an important step. Since the information about mask factories includes various categories such as entrepreneurial background, types of masks and production processes, collecting these data requires collaboration. Finally, we entered the visit and interviewed the factory management personnel. The interview is very important because it can help us learn more about the mask factory and gain people's understanding of the quality of masks.
5. Our Project Sound Bite
Since the establishment of the school three years ago, we have been living in the Linkou campus of Cambridge International School. From the very beginning, the school has been adhering to the belief of 'establishing a foothold in Taiwan while expanding students' international horizons' and is committed to cultivating us to become world citizens who are concerned by the world. Keeping this idea in mind, we hope that through our research, students who come to Concho from all over can gain more knowledge about the development of Linkou's industry and build a deeper attachment to this place in the early days of the school. Therefore, the club members decided to choose the mask factory that was originally a sunset industry as our research object. Investigate the role and industrial transformation of mask factories in Taiwan under the impact of the epidemic.
6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?
During the Internet Expo, we learned that research methods can be qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative research involves conducting interviews or gaining in-depth knowledge about a specific topic. Quantitative research methods include the use of surveys to conduct large-scale surveys. In class, we first checked the Internet pages of former members of Internet Expo and tried to use mind maps to master the research topics. Then, starting from the eight themes of the Internet Expo, we tried to use 'Linkou Mask Factory' as the final theme and put forward themes related to Linkou's Kangqiao community. We looked up some second-hand information on the subject, sorted out the data, and asked questions based on the lack of data. Then, we started to assign work. This is an important step because the information about mask factories includes various categories, such as company background, production process and quality. Collecting this data requires collaboration. Finally, we entered the interview stage and interviewed the manager of the mask factory. The interview is very important because it can help us learn more about the entrepreneurial story of the mask factory and make people understand the mask production process and quality control. 1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project? We use telephone and email to contact people who want to visit. We use a chromebook to record all information and download information.We arrived at the scene to interview.
